COVID-19

In an effort to limit the spread of COVID-19 in our community all City Playgrounds and playing fields are CLOSED until further notice. This closure also applies to the Alogport Skate & BMX Park at Lock 8 Park, outdoor fitness equipment at the Vale Health & Wellness Centre, the Tennis Courts at Cedar/Bay Centennial Park and the West Side Tennis Courts. Our parks and trails remain open for passive use such as walks or bike rides. Residents can also walk Cedar Bay/Centennial Beach. Nickel Beach remains closed. As all city facilities are currently closed, public washrooms are not available.

Parks staff are currently fencing off the over 20 playgrounds in our community to prevent community use.

This closure is in response to recommendations by Niagara Region Public Health to practice physical distancing, which means avoiding close contact with others to prevent the spread of COVID-19. To practice physical distancing:

- Avoid non-essential trips in the community;

- Postpone or cancel gatherings;

- Keep kids away from group settings; and

- Stay six feet away from others while out for walks, or shopping for groceries.

Bylaw staff will be routinely checking on playgrounds reminding those who may be using them that they are closed to the public.

It is time to #PORTicipate and #StayHomePortColborne.

The "Jackknife" bridges at either end are raised and lowered as ships pass in, or out of the lock.
